Uto and Sir Donald climbing conditions

Selkirk Mountains, Sir Donald/Uto

Climbing Conditions

Parks Canada was up on Uto Peak yesterday. Trail is snowfree to the lower bivy but you need to cross one snow slope (~50m) to gain the Sir Donald - Uto Col. Crampons were not needed but an ice axe was nice to have. Small patches of snow along the SW ridge of Uto were easily avoided. Descent off the NW ridge of Uto was aided by the snow patches coming off the Overlook.

Sir Donald is still snowy on the N side, but the climbing line on the NW Ridge looks dry with the occasional small snow patch to step around. The W-Face bypass still holds lots of snow, so boots/crampons/ice axe would be mandatory for a safe descent.
