Climbing Conditions

Hey All, Jasper VS here!

Wanted to reach out to all the itching Ice climbers coming to Jasper for Christmas. Conditions close to town are not in good shape overall.

Maligne Canyon is not ready for top-ropes. The canyon floor isn’t ready for walkers. No reports for WAD yet. No news is no news in this case; might be worth a walk but keep your expectations low. Edge of the World is wet, shallow, steep and limited to one rope.

Headed south down the Parkway; Beauty Creek climbs are all in good shape, well travelled and very reasonable for one party at a time. The ledges are fairly bare and not enough to prevent ice falling between pitches. Curtain Call not in but, Call of the Curtain (M7). Maybe?? Sister Moon, yes. Melt-out, yes. Bastari is in and looks hard and scary.

Tangle Creek is okay, but again not much room for more than 2 ropes. Bridal Veil, kinda in. Panther, not. Cineplex is always in!

Weeping wall is pretty limited to the right flank and not much room for many parties. Sniveling gully is capped with many, many daggers. Polar Circus is getting travel but looks narrow at the ribbon.

MT Wilson looks great! No Happy Daze/ice Nine but Midnight Rambler looks complete all the way to Suntori. Tabernac not there yet.

Save travels and Best Wishes for the Holidays!
