Climbing Conditions

Hi all,

Here are some air photos from this morning showing the snow coverage in popular areas of the Valhalla's. Lots of snow still, general snow line was all the way down to 1500m/1600m on Northerly aspects and 1700m/1800m on Southerly aspects. The Gimli trail appears to be mostly snow covered. The Gimli parking lot was still snow covered with snow patches along the last few km on access road.

The only dry rock worth attempting after a long snowy appraoch would be south facing ridges and perhaps some of the dryer south faces. Anything else will be wet and prone to rock fall. There is a lot of snow on all the descent routes. We noticed a several recent glide cracks and glide avalanche on snow covered rock slabs.

Perhaps more of a ski report than a climbing one!

Cheers,
