Ski Conditions

Ski Conditions

I spent the last 3 days guiding around the Russet Lake Hut. We did one loop around Fissile to ski the Overlord Glacier and found the glacier (not surprisingly!!) really well covered. There seems to be considerably more snow cover than previous years, even at the glaciers toe where crevasses where usually more visible.
We saw very few new avalanches. One Sz 1.5 came out of the Banana Chute during the storm on Tuesday night. There was lots of evidence of large slides from the last couple of weeks under the bigger features.
Snow pits on west aspects at 1800m and 2250m showed the facets under the Feb 26th wind slabs starting to harden over the 3 days, but I always got clean SP fractures at that interface.
Ski quality was best at TL.
Im sure this picture has changed after last nights snow!
The Singing Pass Trail is in great shape. Just watch out for what used to be overhead tree branches. They are now face level :)
