Climbing Conditions

Hi MCR Team

I reconnoitred the approach to Peyto Hut and Mt Habel this weekend.

On Friday am there was 15-20cm of new snow.

The toe of the glacier is already dry (except for storm snow). Fern line is approaching 2200m.

At 2800m in the Habel S Bowl there is 275cm snow.

I observed numerous slab avalanches triggered by loose wet avalanches; mainly E and N aspects. Crowns to 1m+ expected on melt freeze crust w wind loading. See photo from N aspect Mt Thompson.

New snow is mainly melted out below 2200m today.
