A Rugged Day

Mt. Hector, Banff National Park

Ski Conditions

I guided Hector today (26 March) in full-on winter conditions. I pulled the plug on the final steep slope 50 metres below the summits due to a touchy windslab.
It was darn cold with strong SW winds. Temperature at 3300 metres was -17 (~ -32 with wind chill).
White out conditions on the descent required the always amusing ski downhill roped up exercise.
Everything in the alpine and treeline is wind hammered, ski quality poor.
