Climbing Conditions

I climbed The Candle Stick Maker in the Ghost yesterday with my buddy, Juan, via the M7 variation to the first pillar. The pillar is touching down, but only as big around as my 32" waist. It could be ice climbed, but it would be a gamble. Safer to clip the bolts on the variation, like Juan did, or hook your picks into the carabiners, like I did. The rest of the route is in good shape. Some water on the last pitch, but also some fine, dry vertical climbing.

No avalanche hazard in that drainage yesterday.

Happy trails,

Barry Blanchard
