Avalanche Conditions

San Juan Mountain Guides Level 2 avy course. We dug full profiles near the Swamp Angel study plot on the north side of Red Mtn Pass, around 11, 000'. We found a strong mid pack with a few layers of concern in the upper snowpack, mostly down 40-60cm. These rounding facet layers produced many CTM SP results in 4 different snow pits in the same area, but none propagated fractures in Extended Column Tests. The heat today produced a thin melt freeze crust which was topped by a thin layer of radiation recrystalization near surface facets by the time we left the snow profile location at 1630h.
