Recent Storm Snow Tightening Up

Whistler Area, SW Slopes 2100m-1600m

Ski Conditions

Short ski tour today to test out the waters after 100cm+ in last 48h. Skied SW slopes from 2100m to 1600m. 5-10cm low density snow sitting on top of a rapidly settling storm snow. Right side up snowpack with boot top ski pen. Uphill skinning felt much deeper. Excellent ski quality. No whumphing, cracking or any signs of instability. Quick pit at 1750m, SW aspect, HS 235cm, recent storm had settled to 90cm overlying the Dec 26th Sun crust/ SH layer which is 1cm thick. CTH 23 (SP) trending (RP) down 90cm above crust but couldn’t get a shear on second column. Couldn’t find SH in this location. Overall feeling is snowpack has tightened up significantly in the last 24h.
