Duffey Area Conditions

Ski Conditions

Cold and clear with light N winds today. 36cm storm snow as a result of Fridays storm. Evidence of a natural cycle to size 2.5 during and post storm on a variety of aspects, both loose and slab avalanches down 30-40cm. Yesterday's N-W moderate winds easily redistributed the low density storm snow creating isolated soft slab and soft wind features. Alpine inversion today with temperatures reaching -4 in the alpine and -13 at roadside. Solar input yesterday and today creating a very weak crust as well as minor cohesion within the storm snow resulting in potential for future slab development. Polar aspects remain cold and dry. 50-70cm now overlies the December 14 interface. Ski penetration 40cm, foot penetration 70cm.

Happy New Year!
