Good snow coverage

Mt Hector North Glacier

Climbing Conditions

On July 30 we climbed the North Glacier route on Mt Hector. There was good snow coverage on the mountain from the toe of the glacier to the summit, with minimal crevasse problems. As we gained the glacier snow travel was excellent and I was beginning to think that we had finally reached peak summer conditions...until we hit 3050 m. From there to the summit at 3400 m it was more variable with some good travel but also some bad postholing, especially on the way down. But overall it was pretty reasonable alpine conditions and at 11 hours an average time for this route.
