Ski Conditions

Ski Conditions

Spent the day in the Marriot/Stellar area near Rohr. We initially planned on skiing some of the southerly aspect slide paths directly across from Stellar Bowl with the intention of tickling the terrain with no commitment. We found a fairly reactive soft slab about 40cms deep (recent storm snow) that would then step down another 20cms onto an old solar crust on these sunny and steep aspects triggering small size 1 soft slab avalanches. Needless to say it was enough for us to move into more conservative treed terrain. We then moved across the valley to northerly aspects and found excellent skiing that was not reactive avalanche wise to skier traffic, but we also avoided obvious avalanche terrain. Coverage and snow depths are still great up high, but lower below treeline elevations still are on the shallow/faceted side, so expect slighlty boney coverage and deep boot pen below 1600m +/- a few. Regardless, ski quality in sheltered locations is excellent.
