ACMG Mountain Conditions Summary for the Coast Mountains. August 23rd, 2018

Well it looks like there’s some rain showers in the forecast in the next few days (although not widespread), which will hopefully help out with the fire situation and smoky skies experienced lately. Freezing levels are supposed to remain pretty high, but you can expect some snow flurries in the higher reaches of the alpine, especially further north where you can expect it to be colder.

The conditions in the mountains haven’t changed much from last week apart from continued snow melt and opening up of crevasses/moats. Despite a lot of snow in the early spring, it is definitely below average now with difficult travel in many areas that are usually snow walks this time of year. Consider new areas for rockfall as more rock becomes exposed, especially if it starts raining.

Check the weather forecasts carefully, as the rain forecasted doesn’t look heavy or widespread, so it should still be possible to find some great climbing :)
